Modeling Projects with Homemade Playdough, Animation Clay, and Pottery Clay

We have three favorite doughs/clays to use when working on modeling projects: homemade play dough, animation clay, and pottery clay.

Chalk Pastels: Under the Sea, the Nutcracker, and Water Lillies

Chalk pastels remain one of my very favorite medias for working with the kids. With our recent Under the Sea Birthday party celebration, that was one of our first creations so we could use it for decorations.

Next we were inspired by our Maestro Classics review and we made some chalk pastels that showed a scene from the music.

In September, we went on a camping trip. While the kids were swimming in the lake, Ceesa found a water lily, We decided that would make another fun scene. We found a tutorial here.

Cloth Art Projects: Under the Sea and Hippos, Owls, Elsa, and Mermaids

Every month we choose a new type of media for an art project. This is the first year we've attempted using cloth. It just never came to me before.

The first project we worked on were these under the sea pictures. We had some material with nautical pictures. So our first task was to cut them out. With some craft glue, blue paper, sand, sequence and shells we created our pictures...

For the next project, everyone got to choose their own topic and their own ideas. We drew a picture and then filled it in with material to create a collage.
